How to Use ENLUXTRA-R Wound Dressing Roll

ENLUXTRA-R Self Adaptive Wound Dressing Roll for large wounds, circumferential wounds, surgical incisions, and small wounds

The Enluxtra-R dressing roll is recommended for use on large, multiple, or circumferential wounds, including on arms, legs, the head, or the torso.

Enluxtra-R is packaged in a sterile foil package. A latex-free medical adhesive tape for seams is enclosed with each package of Enluxtra-R.

How to Apply the ENLUXTRA-R Self-Adaptive Wound Dressing Roll

Step 1: Cleanse the wound with saline or other cleansing solution. Patting or drying the wound is not necessary.

Note: Do not use alginates or cellulose fibers under Enluxtra. Alginates and cellulose fibers prevent the exudate from being absorbed by Enluxtra.

Step 2: Cut open the package and take out the Enluxtra roll. Using a strip of the accompanying medical adhesive tape, secure the end of the Enluxtra roll to the healthy skin at least 2" outside of the peri-wound area.

Ensure that the soft white fiber surface of the dressing is facing towards the skin and wound, and the printed backing film is facing up and away from the skin.

Step 3: If wrapping an extremity, start from the ankle or wrist to follow venous blood. Then, start wrapping the dressing around the body part, ensuring the white fiber side is facing down directly on the skin. It is important not to overlap the dressing material. Ensure the gap between neighboring turns is less than 1/8th of an inch (or 3 millimeters).

  • If the roll is too long, cut it to the optimal length and secure the roll end with a piece of the enclosed medical adhesive tape.
  • If one roll length is not enough to cover the whole wound, attach the beginning of another roll to the end of the first roll using the enclosed adhesive tape, and continue wrapping.

Note: Do not wrap too tightly. The roll dressing is not to be used for compression. If compression is needed, apply a compression wrap on top of the dressing. Cold or bluish toes may indicate the wrap is too tight, causing reduced circulation. Always follow safe practices when applying compression.

Step 4: Apply the included medical tape along the seams of the Enluxtra roll, centering it along the seam of the dressing turns.

Optional Applications:

  • If treating small wounds, Enluxtra Roll may be cut into smaller pieces and secured to the skin by a medical adhesive tape, a transparent film dressing, or any wrap bandage.
Enluxtra-R for smaller wounds
  • If treating surgical incisions, cut a strip of Enluxtra Roll with a length about 2 inches longer than the incision. Apply the strip along the incision, centering it relative to the incision. Secure Enluxtra strip with medical adhesive tape along the strip edges or a transparent film dressing.

  • Enluxtra Roll strips can be assembled side-by-side to create a large free-form dressing to cover a wound without wrapping the body part. The included medical adhesive tape may be used to adhere the short strips to each other and seal the seams between the strips.

While Using Enluxtra-R

If the dressing edge dries out or becomes stiff, spray a small amount of water on it to restore its softness and flexibility and prevent it from drying out.

Do not expose Enluxtra to water. When showering with the dressing on, use a full waterproof boot or watertight seal to prevent water from entering under the dressing.

When to Change Enluxtra-R

Enluxtra’s transparent film on the back of the dressing allows the exudate to be viewed without removing the dressing. Change more often initially when starting Enluxtra use.

Recommended Enluxtra Change Frequency

➤ Copious drainage or very sloughy or infected wounds: 1-2 days

➤ High drainage or slough presence in the wound: 2-3 days

➤ All other wounds and sites: 3-7 days

Important:

  • If the patient complains about unusual pain or discomfort, change the dressing sooner than scheduled.

If the dressing wrap becomes loose due to reduction of the edema, change the dressing to accommodate the new size of the body part. Always make sure that the dressing is in contact with the wound.

If the wound has depth, fill it with gauze or other appropriate wound filler. Never use alginates or cellulose-based fillers under Enluxtra.

Enluxtra is Hypoallergenic

Enluxtra does not contain latex, silver, or active medications. Although extremely rare, a few patients have reported irritation occurring while wearing Enluxtra. However, do not automatically assume that this is an allergic reaction. True allergic reactions only occur within 3 hours after application.

⧫ Ensure that the irritation is not caused by any products being used in conjunction with Enluxtra, as it may amplify a patient's reaction to a topical medication. Never use alginates or cellulose fibers under Enluxtra.

⧫ Consider what time this pain or discomfort occurred. Pain and discomfort around the fourth day of wear might be simply due to leakage from an overfilled dressing. A dressing change may be overdue! Discomfort occurring around 2-6 AM might be due to ischemic pain.

If a patient is allergic to Enluxtra, then a wound contact layer dressing may be placed over the wound, and then Enluxtra is applied.  Petrolatum impregnated wound contact dressings are not recommended as petrolatum may block exudate flow to Enluxtra.
